Vail Pass Drinking Water System

The Vail Pass is a high mountain route situated in Colorado’s famous Rocky Mountains and serves as a multipurpose recreation point for hiking and winter activities. In collaboration with several industry partners, RK Water updated the Vail Pass Rest Area’s existing water treatment system to provide clean, safe drinking water for those enjoying high-altitude activities. The project involved the procurement, fabrication and installation of a state-of-the-art drinking water treatment system, integration of a spring box and interconnecting pipes, valves and fittings, and the provision of chemical storage containments, feed pumps, controllers and programming for efficient chlorination and water treatment—all within a compact 280-square-foot space. Here’s how we accomplished it: 

• Collaborative Engineering: Working with professional engineers from Aquaworks DBO, we conducted detailed consultations and site assessments to determine the optimal layout and configuration of the system. Our close collaboration ensured that the system met regulatory standards and was tailored to the specific needs of the Vail Pass Rest Area.

• Spatial Optimization: Given the limited space, our team focused on optimizing the usable area to integrate all necessary components without compromising operational efficiency or accessibility for maintenance.

• Environmental Considerations: The project design prioritized environmental impact and sustainability. We implemented solutions that minimized the system’s footprint and ecological impact, aligning with modern water management and conservation practices.

• Quality Assurance: We adhered to rigorous quality assurance standards throughout the project. All materials and equipment met industry standards for durability, efficiency and safety, ensuring the system’s long-term reliability.
