June 4, 2022 – In partnership with the Girl Scouts of Colorado, RK hosted the Build Like A Girl event on Saturday, June 4, to introduce Girl Scouts to construction industry careers. The event featured interactive demonstrations and hands-on activities led by some of RK’s female employees. Over 100 girls, grades K-12, participated in the event, learning about the various construction trades, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, sheet metal, steel and pipefitting. In addition, the Girl Scouts learned first-hand how these trades are applied in the real world with RK’s commercial construction materials, such as industrial piping.
The Build Like a Girl event is an opportunity for young girls to discover new passions and ambitions while building confidence to potentially pursue a construction career in what is historically a male-dominated industry. The United States has been facing a shortage in construction labor and the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the construction industry is projected to gain 400,000 new jobs between 2020 to 2030, giving women options for their future careers.
