March 9, 2016 — RK’s DIA Westin project won at the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Rocky Mountain Chapter Excellence in Construction Awards back in October of 2015.
After capturing the regional award, we entered the DIA Westin in the national awards competition, and we won the National Excellence in Construction Pyramid Award from ABC, the second-highest award, in the category: Specialty Contractor > Mechanical: Commercial – Less Than $2 Million. The award was announced on March 2 during ABC’s 26th annual Excellence in Construction Awards celebration in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
The Excellence in Construction Awards program was developed to honor innovative and high-quality merit shop construction projects. The award honors all construction team members, including the contractor, owner, architect and engineer. The winning projects, selected from entries submitted from across the nation, were judged on complexity, attractiveness, unique challenges overcome, completion time, workmanship, innovation, safety and cost. Eagle awards were presented to the highest scoring projects in each category with pyramid awards presented to the next highest scoring projects.
A panel of industry experts served as the competition’s judges. This year’s panel included representatives from the Design-Build Institute of America, Engineering News-Record, Construction Users Roundtable, the National Association of Women in Construction and representatives from higher education, among others.
