The RK Mechanical team has proven that they operate in a league of their own, having managed to significantly impress the development planners of the City of Denver and the leadership of the Whiting-Turner Contracting company with a one-of-a-kind plumping system installation project. This massive arena and expo hall, named the National Western Livestock Center, called for a one-of-a-kind hydronic system and HVAC installation, with RK Mechanical’s crew using extensive materials and labor to complete the project. From 110 lavatories, 51 urinals, 45 exhaust fans, 12 sound attenuators, 20 destratication fans and 5 pollution control units, to 13,000 lineal ft. of underground piping and the installation of a complex spiral ductwork — with some sections measuring 68 inches, and others measuring up to 88 inches in diameter, and all of which was suspended as high as 70 ft. above the floor — this project would have been impossible to achieve given the provided timeline for completion if not for the expert skill, training and hard work of RK Mechanical. After our scope was completed, the development planners pursued repeat business with RK Mechanical for future projects.

The high elevations and matching roof slopes for the spiral ductwork proved challenging, as was tying in the UC campus’ ambient loop. With such mass, the additional installation of the 10,000 gallon grease interceptor (weighing in at 125,000 lbs.) required a slide rail trench box, a large 35-40 ton class hydraulic excavator and a 250-ton crane to complete the work. The pipe work in the Mechanical/Chiller room also needed to be highly precise.

The customer’s end-of-job satisfaction was high and repeat work from that same client followed suit for the RK Mechanical team in a subsequent data center project.
