RK Industries Named Specialty Firm of the Year by ENR Mountain States & Southwest
September 29, 2026 – Engineering News-Record Mountain States & Southwest (“ENR”) has named RK Industries (“RK”) its 2026 Specialty Firm of the Year, recognizing the company’s growth, expanding regional presence, investment in the skilled trades, integrated capabilities, philanthropic efforts and support of increasingly complex projects.
ENR’s annual recognition highlights a firm demonstrating notable performance and leadership across an eight-state region that includes Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah and Wyoming.
The award comes during a period of significant growth for RK. The company has expanded into new markets, including Arizona, New Mexico and Texas while continuing to strengthen its operations throughout Colorado. RK’s diverse capabilities span specialty contracting services, prefabricated solutions and modular systems for data centers, aviation, healthcare and laboratories, education, transportation, energy, power and other infrastructure markets.
Mission-critical and data center construction has been a significant driver of that growth. These highly technical projects require extensive mechanical, electrical and steel expertise, along with increasingly complex, prefabricated solutions and modular systems…often delivered on accelerated schedules. RK’s integrated business model brings these capabilities together, allowing multiple businesses to collaborate across construction, prefabrication and modular delivery. By shifting more work into state-of-the-art, controlled manufacturing environments, RK can improve productivity, quality, safety and schedule certainty while supporting projects at greater pace and scale.
Recent regional work includes the Sue Anschutz-Rodgers Livestock Center at the National Western Center in Denver, expansive work at Denver International Airport and the University of Wyoming’s student housing project. In Texas, RK Mechanical is working on the largest project in its history, an expansive data center campus that marks a significant milestone in the company’s continued growth. Beyond these major construction projects, RK’s reach extends nationwide through integrated prefabricated equipment and systems that are fabricated in RK facilities, delivered to projects across the country and often installed by RK teams. The company’s modular capabilities further expand that reach, providing repeatable, scalable solutions that can be produced on demand to support the rapidly evolving infrastructure needs of some of the world’s leading technology companies.
New Headquarters Supports Continued Expansion and Regional Economic Growth
In April 2026, RK Industries opened a new 155,000-square-foot headquarters at 3301 Lewiston St. in Aurora. More than 70% larger than the company’s previous Denver headquarters, the facility serves as the central hub for RK Industries and its seven businesses: RK Mechanical, RK Service, RK Steel, RK Energy, RK Water, RK Electrical and RK Mission Critical. The location also supports the company’s philanthropic arms, RK Foundation and RK Cares.
The expansion has supported the creation of nearly 1,200 jobs in its first year, significantly accelerating RK’s original commitment to create 1,800 jobs over eight years. RK worked closely with Gov. Jared Polis’ office, the Global Business Development Division of the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade and the Aurora Economic Development Council over a two-year period to bring the new headquarters to Adams County.
Investing in the Skilled Trades
As demand grows, workforce capacity remains one of the construction industry’s most pressing challenges. The size, complexity and speed of today’s projects have intensified competition for qualified craft professionals, making workforce development as important as business development.
RK has significantly invested in its Talent Acquisition team and tapped its strategic Marketing and Communications capabilities to develop new and targeted ways to reach talent. Through recruitment campaigns, digital advertising, employee referral initiatives, targeted content and employer branding, RK has expanded its reach and strengthened the ability to attract talent in both established and new markets.
These efforts have helped RK grow its workforce by 51% in 2026, supporting the skilled labor needs of current and upcoming projects.
Growth With a Commitment to Community
RK’s regional growth is matched by a longstanding commitment to supporting employees and communities through RK Cares and the RK Foundation.
Since 2011, the RK Foundation has donated more than $3 million, awarded more than 550 grants and supported more than 185 nonprofit organizations focused on community development, education and health. The foundation is funded in part through RK’s scrap metal recycling program, which transforms operational waste into community investment. More than 45 million pounds of scrap metal have been recycled through the program.
RK Cares also provides direct financial assistance to employees experiencing unexpected hardships. Its HERO Fund, supported entirely through employee payroll contributions, has provided more than $567,000 in grants since its establishment in 2019.
Being named ENR Mountain States and Southwest Specialty Firm of the Year reflects the work of RK’s employees across the enterprise. Their expertise, adaptability and commitment to safety, quality and execution continue to position the company to serve its customers, create opportunities in the skilled trades and support the communities where RK employees live and work.
A feature about RK Industries will appear in ENR’s Oct. 26 print issue alongside the publication’s annual ranking of the region’s top specialty contractors.
