The Denver International Airport (DEN) is the 5th largest international airport in the United States, serving nearly 70 million passengers annually. For nearly 20 years, RK Mechanical has been proud to be one of the airport’s mechanical contractors of choice, working on the projects and renovations that make DEN one of the most well-respected airports in the world. From baggage area upgrades and equipment replacement to new retail and mega projects, including the Westin Hotel addition, the Great Hall Expansion Program, and the Concourse Expansion Program, RK Mechanical has been a steadfast and dedicated partner in building DEN, an airport of the future.
The DEN Concourse A-West expansion project was completed in November 2022 and increased gate capacity by adding five levels to the existing concourse, including 12 new gates, three international nodes, sterile corridors and two new sub-cores, and the relocation of the de-icing facility. The project provides a new 530,000-square-foot support space, an outdoor deck available for travelers with stunning mountain views, and 10,000 sq. ft. of retail space. Other amenities include outdoor sitting areas with firepits, a dedicated pet area and a nursing room. RK Mechanical is completing the plumbing, mechanical piping and HVAC scopes on this project including domestic water, sanitary waste, stormwater and gas which serve the building’s bathrooms, drains and equipment, and hot and cold water and HVAC equipment and ductwork.
The DEN C-East Concourse expansion project was completed in June 2022. The project added 16 new gates, all currently leased to Southwest Airlines. The project includes 530,000 sq. ft. of new support space, 30,000 sq. ft. of retail space, views of the vast outdoors, a dedicated pet area and outdoor seating featuring fireplaces. The RK Mechanical team installed all plumbing, HVAC and hydronic equipment within the new concourse in addition to the existing concourse upgrades.
